Here’s How the ‘Hunting Wives’ Cast Reacted to Their ‘SNL’ Parody

The smash-hit, cross-cultural, “straight but lesbian, horny Republican murder drama” series The Hunting Wives is one of the biggest new shows in streaming, but its cast can still find themselves star-struck at the surprise appearance of Aubrey Plaza.

Now that we’re two weeks into Saturday Night Live Season 51, the topical comedy titan is finally starting to shake off the cobwebs and cover all the previously unparodied pop-culture developments from the show’s summer break. After a rocky season premiere failed to provide the fandom with enough evidence to convince us that Lorne Michaels’ touted “shake-up” would result in a better, fresher SNL, we’re finally starting to see some progress — the new cast is beginning to coalesce, beloved alumni are making their return and all the horniest Netflix shows are finally getting their star-studded, high-production-value, pre-taped parodies, starting with The Hunting Wives.

The TV series adaptation of May Cobb’s novel by the same name has captured the attention of American women from across the political spectrum with its sapphic depiction of gun-toting Texan socialites, and, on Saturday, SNL gave The Hunting Wives a send-up that sent its cast into hysterics:

While Amy Poehler and Aubrey Plaza were “learning to make mimosas,” Katie Lowes, Jamie Ray Newman, Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman were at the 35th annual Environmental Media Association awards gala in Los Angeles. However, as soon as the cast of The Hunting Wives found out that their show made it into that Saturday nights festivities on the other side of the country, they had to tune in to see whom Poehler was playing.

Unsurprisingly, SNLs horned-up, lightly exaggerated parody of the sexual, pastoral and occasionally explosive drama of The Hunting Wives was a big hit with the brides themselves, and the SNL cast is glad that the appreciation is mutual. SNL star Chloe Fineman commented under Lowes Instagram post, “This is everything!!! YAY”

Even the original author of The Hunting Wives was delighted by the SNL send-up. “OMG LOOOOVE,” Cobb commented on the post alongside a smattering of excited emojis, hours later adding another thought, “I still can’t get over this!!”

Clearly, SNL is a big fan of the latest trending TV show to earn a late-night parody, and vice versa, which is more than we could ever say about the show’s relationship with Pam Bondi.
