Personally, I wouldn’t be too happy with someone using my property rent-free simply because they “don’t feel like paying rent right now.” Honestly, who feels like paying rent? While it’s understandable if she can’t afford it, there are certainly other ways to say ‘thank you’, anything that at least reflects a bit of gratitude. Unfortunately, that seems to be lacking here, especially given her particular living standards.
