Built in 1925 and stretching 117 feet over the Patchogue River in Westbrook, this bridge’s distinctive name was coined by locals shortly after construction due to the hum it made when cars crossed over it.
Originally a steel truss bridge built by the Chapman Holbrook Company, it underwent refurbishment in 1955 by John G. Holbrook and Sons Company. A proposed replacement with a concrete bridge in 1993 was met with public opposition, leading to the reconstructed open-grate steel deck bridge reopening in 2004. In 2017, the town of Westbrook held a ceremony to officially name it “The Singing Bridge”.
