Tytyri Mine in Lohja, Finland

At the Tytyri Mine Experience, you can descend nearly 100 meters underground in an elevator that plunges through solid granite in just seconds, greeted with the stillness only found in the deep depths of rock.

As you walk through the mine, you’ll learn about the history of the men and women who once trudged down here every day to mine chalk and stone. The underground halls mix geology, history, and even a hint of folklore—perhaps you’ll get lucky and encounter a troll, or even Santa, in the dimly lit corridors.

The site is in an active limestone mine. The museum portion lies about 110 meters below sea level.
